Jeff has been working at the intersection of law and technology for over twenty years in both legal and business capacities, providing business-savvy advice to clients ranging from small startups to Fortune 50 companies. Most recently, he was the first EVP & General Counsel for a real estate technology startup in Virginia, professionalizing the legal function and other internal controls, thereby helping to secure the company’s first external venture capital funding. Prior to that position, he focused on international trade, export controls, and trade sanctions matters both in-house and with leading law firms. He was the head of trade compliance and chief privacy officer for CSRA, a federal information technology services provider now a subsidiary of General Dynamics, and was a consultant with Ernst & Young LLP advising clients on trade compliance throughout the world. He developed his legal skills as an attorney working on international export control and trade sanctions matters globally with both Latham & Watkins LLP and Arent Fox LLP in Washington, DC, advising international corporations, individuals, and governments worldwide. Before becoming an attorney, he also worked in the business affairs group of America Online for five years in both Virginia and London, UK, negotiating multimillion dollar technology licensing agreements.
